What Happens When Your Phone Screen Cracks

A cracked screen isn’t just ugly. That broken glass can cut your fingers every time you swipe. Moisture and dust get in through the cracks and start damaging the internals. And a small crack today can spread into a completely unresponsive screen next week.

If you can still see everything and the touch works fine, you might be tempted to leave it. But the longer you wait, the worse it gets. Cracks spread with temperature changes, pressure from your pocket, or just everyday use. What starts as a hairline crack in the corner ends up as a phone you can barely read.

If you’re seeing black spots, coloured lines, or areas where the touch doesn’t respond properly, that means the LCD or OLED panel underneath the glass is damaged too. Not just the surface. The good news is we replace the full screen assembly, so whether it’s just the glass or the panel underneath, the fix is the same.

A cracked screen also compromises your phone’s water resistance seal. Most modern phones come with an IP67 or IP68 rating, meaning they can survive a splash or a brief dip. Once that glass is cracked, the seal is broken. Rain, a spilled drink, or even just humidity can get inside and corrode the circuit board. What was a simple screen repair can turn into water damage, and that’s a much bigger job.

There’s a safety side to it too. Cracked glass can splinter. Every time you swipe or hold your phone against your face for a call, tiny shards can come off. It’s not dramatic, but over time small cuts on your fingers and cheek aren’t something you should be putting up with.

Then there’s what a cracked screen does to your phone’s value. If you ever plan to sell or trade in your phone, a cracked screen will slash the resale value by 40 to 60 percent. Even if you’re happy using it cracked, you’re throwing money away when it comes time to upgrade. Getting the screen fixed before selling is almost always worth it.

Don’t wait until it stops working altogether. Get it sorted while it’s still usable and save yourself the stress of a dead phone.

How We Replace Your Phone Screen

Walk in, tell us what’s happened, and we’ll check your model and quote you on the spot. No waiting for a callback, no “we’ll get back to you.” You get a price there and then.

Before we start, we run your phone through our diagnostic software. It puts the device through a full set of tests. Touch response across the whole screen, front and rear cameras, Face ID or fingerprint sensor, speakers, microphone, battery health, charging. The lot. It generates a health report so we both know exactly what condition your phone is in before we touch it.

Then we get to work. We replace the full screen assembly. That’s the glass, the digitiser and the LCD or OLED panel underneath. Not just a cheap glass overlay stuck on top. A proper replacement that looks and feels like the original.

Once the new screen is fitted, we run the same diagnostic tests again. Touch works across every area of the screen. Cameras focus properly. Face ID recognises you. Speakers sound right. Battery reads correctly. You can see the before and after results yourself.

While we’ve got the phone open, we also do a visual check of the internals. We’re looking for anything that might cause problems down the line. Loose connectors, dust buildup around the charging port, any signs of previous water damage, and the general condition of the battery. If we spot something, we’ll let you know before we close it up. No surprise charges, just a heads up so you can decide what to do about it.

When the new screen goes on, we use proper adhesive strips and sealing to restore the water resistance as close to factory standard as possible. Not every shop bothers with this step, but it matters. Without it, your phone has no protection against moisture getting inside.

Your data stays completely untouched throughout. A screen replacement doesn’t affect your photos, messages, apps or settings. Everything will be exactly where you left it.

Most screen replacements are done within the hour. We’ll give you a realistic timeframe when you drop it off. There’s plenty of cafes and shops along Perth Road to kill time while you wait.

iPhone Screen Repair Dundee

We repair every iPhone model from the iPhone 7 right through to the latest iPhone 17 range. Whatever you’ve got, we can fix it.

The models we see most are the iPhone 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16 range. Cracked front glass, unresponsive touch in one corner, black spots spreading across the display. All fixable with a full screen replacement.

For most iPhone models, we offer a choice of screen types so you can pick what suits your budget:

  • Aftermarket LCD – The most affordable option and what most repair shops fit as standard. These work fine but iPhones that originally came with OLED screens weren’t designed for LCD, so you’ll notice the colours aren’t as vivid and the blacks aren’t as deep.
  • Aftermarket Soft OLED – A big step up. These are proper OLED panels so you get the deep blacks, rich colours and viewing angles much closer to the original screen. Best balance of quality and price.
  • Original Screen – The same screen Apple uses. Identical quality to what came out of the box. More expensive, but if you want it exactly as it was, this is the option.

We’ll explain the difference when you come in and let you decide. No pressure either way.

Face ID is a big worry for folk getting their iPhone screen replaced. We test it before and after using our diagnostic software, so you can see it’s working properly before you leave. Same goes for the front camera, True Tone display and haptic touch.

On newer iPhones from the iPhone 12 onwards, Apple pairs the screen to the device at the factory level. That means when a new screen is fitted, we need to run a calibration process to make sure the phone recognises it properly. We handle all of that in the shop. True Tone, which adjusts your display colour temperature based on ambient lighting, is preserved during the replacement so your screen still looks natural in different environments.

Each iPhone generation has its own common screen issues. The iPhone 12 and 13 range are notorious for cracking at the notch area, right where the glass is thinnest around the Face ID cutout. The iPhone 14 and 15 models tend to crack from corner drops because the flat edge design transfers the impact directly to the glass. The iPhone 16 range with its thinner bezels means even a small crack can reach the display panel quickly. Whatever model you’ve got, we’ve seen the pattern before and we know what to expect when we open it up.

If you know your model, you can check repair options and pricing on our device pages. If you’re not sure what model you’ve got, just bring it in and we’ll tell you.

Samsung Screen Repair Dundee

Samsung phones are built differently to iPhones. The screens are bonded to the frame in a way that needs specialist tools and experience to separate without damaging the internals. Not every repair shop has the kit or the know-how to do it properly. We do.

We repair all Samsung models. Galaxy S series, A series, Note, Z Flip and Z Fold. The ones we see most are the S23, S24, A54 and A55 range. Cracked glass, touch not responding, green lines down the display, screen flickering. All fixable.

For Samsung screen repairs, we only use Samsung service pack screens. These are the original screens with the frame, exactly what Samsung uses. We won’t fit aftermarket Samsung screens because the quality is poor. They fail quickly, develop touch issues, and the colours never look right. You end up back in the shop within weeks needing it done again. With a service pack, the repair is done right first time and your phone looks and works exactly as it did before.

The Galaxy Z Flip and Z Fold are a different job altogether. Folding screens need careful handling and specific parts. We can repair them but the parts cost more and the job takes longer. We’ll tell you upfront what’s involved.

Samsung screens cost more than most iPhone screens, and there’s a good reason for that. Samsung uses AMOLED technology across almost all of its range. Each pixel produces its own light, which is why you get those deep blacks and vivid colours that Samsung phones are known for. LCD screens, by comparison, use a backlight behind the whole panel. AMOLED is more expensive to manufacture, more complex to bond to the phone frame, and the quality difference is immediately obvious. That’s what you’re paying for with a service pack repair, and that’s why we won’t fit an aftermarket panel that doesn’t match.

If you’ve got a Samsung with an Edge or curved display, that adds another layer of complexity. The screen wraps around the sides of the frame, and the adhesive bonding has to be exact or you’ll end up with light bleed at the edges or touch dead spots along the curve. We’ve got the tooling and the experience to do curved screen replacements properly. It takes a bit longer, but the result is right.

The service pack screen comes with a new frame and housing attached. That means we’re not trying to peel a fragile AMOLED panel off one frame and stick it on another. The screen and frame arrive as a single unit, so the fit is perfect, the adhesive is factory-applied, and there’s no risk of damaging the new screen during the transfer. It’s a cleaner repair with a better result.

If you’re not sure what Samsung model you’ve got, just bring it in. We’ll check and give you a quote on the spot.

Google Pixel & Other Brands

We don’t just do iPhones and Samsungs. We repair Google Pixel, Huawei, OnePlus, Xiaomi, Motorola and more.

Google Pixels are becoming more popular in Dundee and we see more of them every month. Pixel 7, 8, 9 and 10 series. Cracked screens, touch issues, same repair process as any other phone.

For less common brands, parts can sometimes take a wee bit longer to source. We’ll tell you the timeframe upfront so you’re not left wondering. Most of the time we can still get it sorted within a day or two.

Whatever brand you’ve got, bring it in and we’ll take a look. If we can fix it, we will. If we can’t get the parts, we’ll tell you straight.

Screen Repair vs Buying a New Phone

This is the question most folk ask themselves before they even walk through the door. Is it worth fixing, or should I just buy a new one?

Most of the time, a screen repair costs a fraction of what a new phone would set you back. Even on older models, a new screen can give your phone another two or three years of life. Everything else still works fine. The battery, the camera, the processor. It’s just the glass that’s broken.

We’ll always tell you honestly. If your phone’s five years old, the battery’s shot, and the screen repair costs nearly as much as a decent refurbished replacement, we’ll say so. No point spending money on a repair that doesn’t make sense.

But if your phone’s got plenty of life left in it, a screen repair is a no-brainer. You keep all your data, all your apps, all your settings. No messing about setting up a new phone, trying to remember passwords, re-downloading everything, getting your banking apps verified again, setting up your email, transferring your WhatsApp. All that hassle for a cracked screen? Just get it fixed.

To put some numbers on it: a screen repair on an iPhone 13 costs roughly 15 to 20 percent of what a new iPhone would cost you. Even a Samsung S24 service pack screen repair is a fraction of the price of a new handset. The maths is pretty straightforward once you compare the two.

There’s an environmental angle too. Every phone that gets thrown away instead of repaired adds to the growing pile of electronic waste. Phones contain rare earth metals, lithium, cobalt and other materials that are energy-intensive to mine and process. Repairing a phone that still works perfectly well, apart from a cracked screen, is better for the planet than binning it and buying new.

Here’s another thing most folk don’t think about: if you’re planning to sell or trade in your phone, the value drops massively with a cracked screen. Getting it fixed before you sell will cost you less than the difference in trade-in value. So even if you do want a new phone, it makes financial sense to repair the screen first, then sell the old one at a better price.

If it turns out repair isn’t the right call, we sell refurbished phones too. Tested, cleaned up and sold with a warranty. So you’ve still got options without paying full price for brand new.

Quality Screens, Not Cheap Copies

Not all replacement screens are the same. The cheapest screens you can buy look washed out, don’t respond to touch properly, and crack again within weeks. Some repair shops fit these to keep their prices low, but you end up back in the shop paying for another repair before long.

We don’t cut corners on parts. For iPhones, we offer a choice of aftermarket LCD, aftermarket soft OLED, or original Apple screens depending on your budget and model. For Samsung, we only use Samsung service pack screens because the aftermarket quality isn’t good enough. For every other brand, we source quality parts that match the original spec.

If you’ve had a cheap screen fitted somewhere else before, you’ll probably know the signs. The colour temperature looks off, everything has a slightly blue or yellow tint compared to the original. The brightness doesn’t go as high, or the screen looks dim even at full brightness. Touch has dead spots or areas where you have to press harder than normal. The screen might even start separating from the frame after a few weeks because the adhesive wasn’t applied properly. These are all hallmarks of a cheap aftermarket screen, and they’re exactly why we don’t fit them.

Our 90-day warranty covers any defects with the screen we fitted. If the colours start to fade, if touch stops responding in certain areas, if the screen lifts or separates from the frame, bring it back and we’ll replace it at no extra cost. That’s why every screen replacement comes with a 90-day warranty. If something’s not right with the screen we fitted, bring it back and we’ll sort it.

// FAQ

Common Questions

How much does a phone screen repair cost in Dundee?

It depends on the phone model and the type of screen you choose. We quote on the spot when you bring it in. We charge a small diagnostic fee to check the device, and if you go ahead with the repair, that fee comes off the final price. No surprises.

How long does a screen repair take?

Most screen replacements are done within the hour. We budget a minimum of one hour for any job. We’ll give you a realistic timeframe when you drop it off.

Will I lose my data if I get my screen replaced?

No. A screen replacement doesn’t touch your data. Your photos, messages, apps, settings, everything stays exactly where it is.

Will Face ID still work after a screen replacement?

Aye. We test Face ID before and after the repair using our diagnostic software. Same goes for the front camera, touch response, speakers and microphone. You can see the results yourself before you leave.

Do you use original screens?

For iPhones, we offer a choice: aftermarket LCD, aftermarket soft OLED, or original Apple screens. We’ll explain the difference and let you pick what suits your budget. For Samsung, we only use Samsung service pack screens because the aftermarket quality is poor.

Can you fix a phone screen that’s completely smashed?

Aye, even if you can’t see anything on the display. We replace the full screen assembly so it doesn’t matter how badly the old one is damaged.

Should I repair my cracked screen or buy a new phone?

We’ll tell you honestly. Most of the time a screen repair costs a fraction of a new phone and your device has plenty of life left. If it’s not worth repairing, we’ll say so. We also sell refurbished phones if you’d rather go that route.

Do you repair all phone brands?

iPhone, Samsung, Google Pixel, Huawei, OnePlus, Xiaomi, Motorola and more. If you’re not sure we can fix yours, just bring it in or gee’z a shout on 01382 217272.
