Common iPhone Problems We Fix
iPhones are well-built, but they’re not indestructible. Here’s what we see most often:
Cracked screens are the number one reason folk bring their iPhones in. One drop on the pavement and the screen’s covered in cracks. Sometimes it’s just the glass, sometimes the display underneath is damaged too with black spots, coloured lines, or areas where touch stops responding.
Battery degradation is the second most common issue. After two or three years of daily charging, the battery loses capacity. Your iPhone doesn’t last the day, shuts down randomly, or shows Battery Health below 80%. Apple throttles the processor when the battery degrades to prevent shutdowns, so your phone gets slower too.
Charging port problems build up over time. Pocket lint packs into the Lightning or USB-C port, the cable feels loose, or the phone only charges at certain angles. Sometimes the port itself is physically damaged.
Water damage happens more than folk admit. Dropped in the sink, fell out a pocket into the toilet, got caught in the rain. Even iPhones with IP68 water resistance can suffer water damage. The seals degrade over time and real-world liquids are harsher than lab test water.
Camera issues like blurry photos, the camera not focusing, or a black screen when you open the camera app. Often caused by a drop that’s knocked the camera module out of alignment.
Speaker and microphone faults where folk can’t hear you on calls, or you can’t hear them. Sometimes it’s just debris in the speaker grille, sometimes the module needs replacing.
Software problems like the phone freezing, apps crashing, or getting stuck in a boot loop. Sometimes a software restore sorts it, sometimes there’s an underlying hardware issue causing it.
Whatever’s wrong, bring it in and we’ll diagnose it properly.
iPhone Screen Repair
The most common iPhone repair we do. Cracked glass, shattered displays, touch not responding. We’ve replaced thousands of iPhone screens over the years.
For most iPhone models, we offer a choice of three screen types:
Aftermarket LCD is the most affordable option. These work fine but iPhones that came with OLED screens weren’t designed for LCD panels, so the colours won’t be as vivid and the blacks won’t be as deep.
Aftermarket Soft OLED is a proper OLED panel with deep blacks, rich colours and viewing angles much closer to the original screen. Best balance of quality and price. This is what most of our customers choose.
Original Apple screens are identical to what came in the box. Same quality, same feel. More expensive, but if you want it exactly as it was, this is the option.
On iPhone 12 and newer models, Apple pairs the screen to the device. With aftermarket screens you may see a warning in Settings about the screen being non-genuine, and True Tone may not be available. The screen itself works perfectly. If you choose an original Apple screen, these warnings don’t appear.
Face ID is tested before and after every screen replacement using our diagnostic software. We stock screens for the most common models, so most iPhone screen repairs are done within the hour.

Call UsiPhone Battery Replacement
If your iPhone isn’t lasting the day, check Settings > Battery > Battery Health. Below 80% means the battery has degraded significantly and Apple is already throttling your processor to compensate. A new battery brings back full speed and a full day’s charge.
We offer two battery options for iPhones:
Aftermarket batteries are brand new, identical spec to the original Apple battery. They work perfectly. The only catch is Apple’s pairing system means the battery won’t calibrate with the iPhone, so you’ll see a warning message in Settings saying the battery is “unknown.” The battery itself works fine, charges fine, lasts all day.
Pulled original batteries with 95-99% health are genuine Apple batteries taken from recycled handsets. These calibrate properly with your iPhone, show accurate health data, and don’t trigger any warnings. Near-full health at a fraction of what Apple charges.
We’ll explain both options and let you pick what suits your budget. Most battery replacements are done within the hour. Your data stays completely untouched.
iPhone Charging Port Repair
If your Lightning cable feels loose, only charges at certain angles, or won’t charge at all, the charging port probably needs attention. The most common cause is compacted lint. We carefully clean it out first. If the port itself is damaged, we replace the full charging port assembly.
iPhone 15 onwards uses USB-C instead of Lightning. Different connector, same process. We repair both. Lightning port damage can also cause “Accessory Not Supported” errors and stop data sync and CarPlay from working.
One thing folk dinnae always realise: a port that looks fine to the eye can still have bent pins or corroded contacts inside. If cleaning disnae fix the charging fault, we use a microscope to inspect the port properly before quoting a replacement. That way you’re nae paying for a repair you dinnae need.
For iPhones that have been in salt water or soapy water, corrosion can spread from the port to the surrounding board contacts. We check for that during the repair and clean the board pads before fitting the new port. Skipping that step is why some charging faults come back after a cheap repair elsewhere.
iPhone Water Damage Repair
Dropped your iPhone in the sink, the bath, or down the toilet? Don’t wait. The quicker you bring it in, the better the chances of saving it.
Apple’s IP68 water resistance rating degrades over time. A two-year-old iPhone is less water resistant than the day you bought it. And the rating is tested with clean, still water. Soapy bath water, salty sea water, and chlorinated pool water are all much more aggressive.
Apple don’t cover water damage under warranty, even on IP68-rated phones. They check the Liquid Contact Indicator near the SIM tray, and if it’s turned red, they’ll quote you for a full replacement. We take a different approach: we open it up, clean the corrosion, and try to save it.
When we open a water-damaged iPhone, we use isopropyl alcohol and ultrasonic cleaning to flush corrosion from the board. Corrosion is the real enemy here. The water itself disnae kill electronics directly; it’s what the water leaves behind when it dries. Mineral deposits and oxidation bridge connections that should be separate, causing short circuits and component failures.
We’ve saved iPhones that have been at the bottom of a sink overnight. We’ve also had folk bring in phones they’d left in a bag of rice for three days before they came to us. The rice trick disnae work and the delay lets corrosion spread further. If your iPhone gets wet, power it off, dinnae try to charge it, and bring it straight in. That single decision makes a bigger difference to the outcome than almost anything else.
iPhone Camera, Speaker and Other Repairs
Not every iPhone fault is a cracked screen or a dead battery. We fix the less common stuff too.
Camera repairs: blurry photos, camera won’t focus, black screen when opening the camera app. Usually the camera module knocked out of alignment by a drop. We replace it and test with diagnostic software. On iPhone 13 Pro and later with the triple camera system, we test all three lenses individually. ProRes video mode and macro mode get checked too, nae just the standard photo app.
Speaker and earpiece: can’t hear the person on the other end? Or they can’t hear you? The earpiece or loudspeaker might need replacing. Sometimes it’s just debris in the speaker grille. Worth letting us check before paying for a new speaker module. A gentle clean with compressed air has sorted faults folk assumed needed a full replacement.
Rear glass replacement: iPhone 8 onwards has glass backs that crack just as easily as the front. On iPhone 14 and later, Apple redesigned the back with a removable mid-frame, making rear glass repairs much more affordable than older models.
Software issues: frozen, stuck on the Apple logo, apps crashing constantly, or stuck in a boot loop. Sometimes a restore sorts it. Sometimes there’s a hardware fault underneath. We run diagnostics first so we’re nae just guessing.
Common Issues by iPhone Generation
Different iPhone generations have their own patterns:
iPhone 7 and 8: the Home button on these models contains the Touch ID sensor and is paired to the logic board at the factory. If the button is damaged, it cannae be replaced with a standard aftermarket part without losing Touch ID. Worth knowing before you decide whether to repair or upgrade.
iPhone X, XR, XS: these were the first iPhones with Face ID and OLED displays. The Face ID sensor array sits in the notch and is sensitive to drops. If Face ID stops working after a cracked screen repair done elsewhere, the sensor flex may have been damaged during the job. We always test Face ID before and after screen work.
iPhone 12 and 13: screens crack most often at the notch area where the glass is thinnest around the Face ID cutout. The iPhone 13 introduced screen IC pairing, meaning Face ID requires careful calibration after screen replacement.
iPhone 14 and 15: the flat edge design transfers impact directly to the glass, so corner drops cause cracks more easily. On the upside, Apple redesigned the iPhone 14 with removable back glass, making rear glass repairs much more affordable.
iPhone 16: Apple introduced electrically-released battery adhesive, making battery replacement cleaner and faster. The thinner bezels mean even small cracks reach the display panel quickly.

Which iPhone models do you repair?
All of them. iPhone 7 through to the latest iPhone 17 range. The most common models we see are iPhone 11 through 15. We stock parts for popular models so most repairs are same day. Older models may take a day to source parts.
How long does an iPhone screen replacement take?
Usually within an hour. Newer models take slightly longer because of Face ID component transfer and screen calibration. We test Face ID, cameras, and touch response before and after using diagnostic software.
What screen options do you offer for iPhones?
Three options. Aftermarket LCD (budget), aftermarket Soft OLED (best value, proper OLED quality), and original Apple screens (factory identical). We explain the difference and let you choose. For Samsung, we only use service pack screens.
Will Face ID still work after screen replacement?
Aye. We carefully transfer Face ID components to the new screen and calibrate everything. We test it with diagnostic software before and after so you can see it’s working. On iPhone 13 and later, proper calibration is essential for Face ID to function.
Will I see a warning after battery or screen replacement?
With aftermarket parts, you may see an “Unknown Part” message in Settings. This is Apple flagging that the part wasn’t fitted by them. It doesn’t affect how the phone works. With original or pulled original parts, no warning appears.
Is it worth repairing an old iPhone?
If the repair costs less than half what a replacement would cost and the phone still runs well, usually aye. An iPhone 12 with a cracked screen is still a perfectly good phone after a screen replacement. We’ll be honest if we think repair doesn’t make sense.
Can you fix an iPhone that’s been in water?
Often, aye. Apple won’t repair water-damaged iPhones under warranty, but we open them up, clean the corrosion, and replace damaged components. The sooner you bring it in after water exposure, the better the chances. Don’t put it in rice.
Do I need to book an appointment?
Nope. Just drap your iPhone in during opening hours: Monday to Friday 9:30 to 17:30, Saturday 10:00 to 17:00. 153 Perth Road, Dundee.
Will I lose my data during repair?
No. Screen replacements, battery swaps, and charging port repairs don’t affect your data. Photos, messages, apps, everything stays where it was. For repairs that might affect data (like some water damage cases), we discuss backup options first.
Do your iPhone repairs come with a warranty?
Every repair comes with a 90-day warranty on parts and labour. If something we fixed develops a problem, bring it back and we’ll sort it.
