What We Stock
Two ranges covering the most common needs:
Evo Labs KD-101LUK. Full-size wired USB keyboard with UK layout. Standard membrane keys, full number pad, and all the function keys. Plug it in and it works. No batteries, no wireless pairing, no software. The most affordable way to get a proper keyboard on your desk. Ideal for desktop computers, or for using with a laptop on a desk alongside an external monitor.
Logitech MK270. Full-size wireless keyboard and mouse combo. UK layout. 2.4GHz wireless via a single USB receiver that handles both the keyboard and mouse. No cables on your desk at all. Runs on standard batteries that last months. The keyboard has full-size keys with a number pad, and the included mouse is a comfortable standard size. If you’re setting up a new desktop or want to upgrade your laptop to a proper desk setup, this combo covers both input devices in one box.
Stock changes as new products come in. Gee’z a shout on 01382 217272 if you’re after something specific before you come in.
We stock the Marvo Scorpion gaming range. The Saber 61 is a 60 percent wired mechanical board with full RGB backlighting, available in black and white, compact enough for smaller desks. The Loot 30 is a 3 in 1 combo that bundles a full-size keyboard, mouse and mousepad in one box. All mechanical switches, anti-ghosting, RGB.
What Makes a Good Office Keyboard
For everyday office work (emails, documents, spreadsheets, web browsing), you need a keyboard that’s comfortable to type on for hours, quiet enough for a shared space, and reliable enough that keys don’t start failing after six months.
The keyboards we stock are membrane keyboards. That means the keys press down onto a rubber dome that registers the keystroke. They’re quiet, lightweight, and affordable. For office and home use, membrane keyboards are what most folk need. They don’t have the clicky tactile feedback of mechanical keyboards, but they also don’t annoy everyone within earshot.
Mechanical keyboards (the ones with individual switches under each key) are louder, more tactile, and last longer. They’re popular with gamers and folk who type a lot of code. We can source them if you want one, but for general office use, a good membrane keyboard does the job without the noise or the price tag.
Both the Evo Labs and Logitech keyboards we stock have standard key spacing and full key travel. They feel like a proper keyboard, not like typing on a laptop where the keys barely move.
UK Layout: Why It Matters
Every keyboard we stock is UK layout. This matters more than folk realise until they buy the wrong one.
The UK layout has the £ symbol on Shift+3. The US layout has the # symbol on Shift+3. If you buy a US layout keyboard (which is what many online sellers ship by default), every time you try to type a pound sign you’ll get a hash. The @ symbol and the quotation marks are in different positions too. It’s infuriating when you’re trying to type an email address and the @ keeps coming out as “.
The physical key arrangement is different as well. UK keyboards have a larger Enter key (shaped like an upside-down L) and an extra key next to the left Shift. US keyboards have a smaller, horizontal Enter key. You can tell at a glance which layout a keyboard is by looking at the Enter key shape.
Both the Evo Labs and the Logitech MK270 we stock are confirmed UK layout. The Evo Labs box even has a “UK Layout” badge on it. No surprises when you plug it in.
Wired vs Wireless
Wired (USB). Plug in and it works. No batteries, no pairing, no signal to drop. For a desktop computer that sits on a desk permanently, wired is the simplest and most reliable option. The Evo Labs KD-101LUK is wired.
Wireless (2.4GHz). No cable from keyboard to computer. Cleaner desk, more flexibility in positioning. The Logitech MK270 uses a tiny USB receiver that plugs into a USB port and handles both the keyboard and the mouse wirelessly. The range is several metres, so you can type from across the room if you want. Batteries last months before needing replacement.
Bluetooth. Connects without a USB receiver, using your computer’s built-in Bluetooth. Saves a USB port. Can pair with multiple devices (computer, tablet, phone) and switch between them. Slightly higher latency than 2.4GHz but not noticeable for typing. We can source Bluetooth keyboards if that’s what you need.
For a fixed desk setup, wired is simplest. For a tidy desk or if you want keyboard and mouse in one wireless package, the Logitech MK270 combo is the easy choice.
Full-Size vs Compact
Full-size keyboards include the number pad on the right side. Essential if you type numbers regularly. Accountants, admin staff, data entry, anyone working with spreadsheets. Both the Evo Labs and Logitech keyboards we stock are full-size with number pads.
Compact keyboards (tenkeyless or TKL) drop the number pad to save desk space. Your mouse sits closer to the keyboard, which is better for your shoulder position. If you rarely use the number pad and want more room on your desk, compact is worth considering. We can source these on request.
If you’re not sure, full-size is the safe choice. You might not use the number pad every day, but when you need it (entering phone numbers, filling in forms, budgeting), it’s much faster than using the number row at the top.
Typing Comfort
If you type for hours every day, the keyboard matters more than you think. A cheap keyboard with shallow, mushy keys slows you down and can contribute to wrist strain over months.
Key travel. How far the key moves when you press it. Laptop keyboards have very short travel (1-2mm). Desktop keyboards have more travel (3-4mm). More travel means more tactile feedback, fewer missed keystrokes, and a more comfortable typing rhythm. Both our keyboards have proper desktop key travel.
Wrist position. Your wrists should float above the keyboard, not rest on the desk at an angle. If the keyboard is too high, you bend your wrists upward which strains the tendons. Most keyboards have flip-out feet on the back to adjust the angle. Experiment with feet up vs feet down and see which feels more natural.
External keyboard with a laptop. If you use a laptop at a desk with an external monitor, adding an external keyboard transforms the setup. You can position the screen at eye level and the keyboard at the right height for your arms. Much better than hunching over the laptop’s built-in keyboard for hours. The Logitech MK270 combo gives you keyboard and mouse in one package for this exact setup.
Why Buy In-Store
Keyboards are personal. Some folk like clicky keys, some prefer quiet ones. Some want a compact layout, some need the number pad. Walk in and press a few keys. You’ll know in seconds whether it’s the right keyboard for you. That’s something you can’t do from a product listing online.
We can also check the layout matches what you need. If you’ve been burned by a US layout keyboard before, we’ll make sure you leave with the right one.
For mice, headsets, webcams, and other computer accessories, we stock those too. 153 Perth Road, Monday to Friday 9:30 to 17:30, Saturday 10 to 17. Nae appointment needed.
