Why You Need a Screen Protector
A cracked phone screen is the most common repair we do at Repair Alliance. We see folk every day with shattered screens from drops that a screen protector would have prevented. A tempered glass screen protector won’t make your phone indestructible, but it takes the hit instead of your actual screen.
Here’s how it works. When your phone hits the ground, the tempered glass protector absorbs the impact energy and distributes it across the surface. The protector cracks instead of your screen. That’s not a failure. That’s the protector doing exactly what it’s designed to do. A cracked protector with an intact screen underneath is a success. You replace the protector for a few quid instead of paying for a screen replacement.
Screen protectors also guard against scratches. Keys in your pocket, coins, sand at the beach, grit on a table. Your phone screen is tough but not scratch-proof. Over time, micro-scratches build up and make the screen look dull and harder to read in sunlight. A protector keeps the actual glass underneath pristine.
The maths is simple. A screen protector costs a fraction of a screen repair. An iPhone screen replacement can cost hundreds. A tempered glass protector that prevents that repair pays for itself many times over. It’s the cheapest insurance you can buy for your phone.
Tempered Glass vs Hydrogel
We stock two types of screen protector. Each has its strengths, and the right one depends on your phone and how you use it.
Tempered glass is what most folk choose. It’s a solid sheet of hardened glass that sits on top of your screen. It feels exactly like your original screen under your finger. Smooth, responsive, no difference to touch sensitivity. Tempered glass offers the best scratch resistance and impact protection. When it takes a hit, it cracks in a controlled pattern (like a car windscreen) and absorbs the energy. The main limitation: it doesn’t work well on phones with heavily curved screen edges because rigid glass can’t wrap around the curve.
Hydrogel is a flexible film that we cut to fit any device. Any phone model, any tablet, anything with a screen. If we don’t have a tempered glass protector for your specific phone, hydrogel is the answer. We cut it to the exact size of your screen using our cutting machine, so it fits perfectly regardless of make or model.
Hydrogel is thinner and more flexible than tempered glass. It’s better at absorbing impact without cracking, and it has self-healing properties where minor surface scratches gradually disappear over time. It doesn’t feel quite as glass-like under your finger, but it offers excellent protection. For phones with curved screens (like Samsung Galaxy S series), hydrogel often works better because it wraps around the curve where tempered glass lifts at the edges.
Not sure which suits your phone? Bring it in and we’ll recommend the best option. For most iPhones with flat screens, tempered glass is the way to go. For curved-edge Samsung phones or unusual models, hydrogel is usually better.
What We Stock
We carry Xquisite tempered glass screen protectors for the most popular iPhone models. These are 2D tempered glass protectors with military-grade 1.2 metre drop testing, anti-shock protection, oleophobic anti-fingerprint coating, and case-friendly edges that won’t interfere with your phone case.
Models currently in stock:
- iPhone 17, 17 Pro, 16 Pro
- iPhone 16, 15
- iPhone 14 Plus, 15 Pro Max
- iPhone Air
- iPad models (various sizes)
For phones not in the tempered glass range, we cut hydrogel protectors to fit. Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel, Huawei, OnePlus, Xiaomi, Motorola, and any other model. The hydrogel is cut precisely to your phone’s screen dimensions using our cutting machine.
We also stock privacy screen protectors for popular iPhone models. These darken the screen when viewed from an angle, so the person sitting next to you on the bus or in a cafe can’t read your messages or emails. The screen looks normal when you’re looking at it straight on. Popular with folk who handle sensitive work information on their phones.
Stock changes as new phone models come out. If you need a protector for a specific model, gee’z a shout on 01382 217272 and we’ll check before you come in.
We Fit It For You
Anyone who’s tried fitting a screen protector at home knows the pain. Dust specks that appear from nowhere, bubbles that won’t press out, the protector landing slightly crooked and you’ve wasted it. About 4 out of 10 DIY attempts end up with bubbles or dust trapped underneath.
We fit them properly. Here’s what we do:
Thorough cleaning. Not just a quick wipe. We remove every speck of dust, every fingerprint, every bit of debris from your screen. This step is what most folk skip at home, and it’s why DIY installations fail. Any dust left on the screen becomes a permanent bump under the protector.
Precise alignment. We use guides and jigs to position the protector perfectly before the adhesive touches the screen. Camera cutout, speaker cutout, front sensor areas, all lined up with even borders. One chance to get it right, and we get it right.
Bubble-free application. We press down from the centre outward in a controlled motion, pushing any air out toward the edges. No bubbles, no lifting, no peeling corners.
Quality check. We test touch sensitivity across the whole screen, check that the camera and sensors aren’t covered, and make sure the protector sits flush with your phone case without catching on the edges.
The whole thing takes a couple of minutes. You walk out with a perfectly fitted screen protector that looks like it was factory installed. If anything goes wrong during fitting, we redo it at no extra cost.

Call UsDoes It Work With My Case?
This is one of the most common questions we get. The short answer: yes, the protectors we stock are designed to work with cases.
Our Xquisite tempered glass protectors are labelled “case-friendly,” which means the edges are slightly smaller than the full screen area. This leaves a tiny gap around the border so your phone case can sit over the top without pushing the protector up at the edges. A protector that goes right to the edge of the screen often catches on case edges and starts peeling up within days.
If you’ve already got a case on your phone, bring it with you. We’ll fit the protector with your case on so we can check compatibility right there. If the case pushes against the protector’s edges, we’ll tell you before you commit.
Wallet cases and flip cases generally work fine because they fold away from the screen. Slim cases work fine because they sit within the protector’s border gap. Very thick rugged cases can occasionally conflict with edge-to-edge protectors, but our case-friendly Xquisite range is designed to avoid this.
If you need a new case as well, we stock phone cases from Xquisite and other brands that are tested to work with our protectors.
Screen Protector After a Screen Repair
If you’ve just had your screen repaired or replaced with us, fitting a screen protector before you leave is a smart move. You’ve already spent money getting the screen fixed. A few extra quid for a protector means you’re less likely to be back for the same repair again.
We’ll offer to fit one when you collect your phone after a repair. No pressure, but it’s worth considering. A lot of our customers add one on. The screen is already perfectly clean after the repair, so the protector goes on in ideal conditions.
If your screen protector is cracked but your actual screen underneath is fine, you don’t need a screen repair. You just need a new protector. Pop in and we’ll swap it out. That’s the whole point of having one. It takes the hit so your screen doesn’t have to.
Why Buy In-Store
You can buy a screen protector online for a few quid. But then you have to fit it yourself. In a kitchen full of dust. With fingers that leave prints on the adhesive side. And if you mess it up, you’ve wasted it and need to order another one.
Walk into our Perth Road shop and we handle everything. We pick the right protector for your phone model, clean the screen properly, fit it bubble-free, and check it works with your case. The whole process takes a couple of minutes and you leave with a perfectly protected screen.
If your protector cracks later from a drop, just pop back in and we’ll fit a new one. Better the protector than your screen.

Call UsCommon Questions
How much does a screen protector cost?
Depends on the model and type. Standard tempered glass or privacy protectors. We’ll tell you the price when you come in. Installation is included.
How long does it take to fit?
A couple of minutes. We clean the screen, align the protector, and press it on. You can wait while we do it.
Do you have screen protectors for all phones?
Tempered glass protectors we keep in stock for iPhone and iPad. For any other phone model, we cut a hydrogel protector to fit. Whatever phone you’ve got, we can protect the screen.
Is tempered glass better than plastic film?
Aye. Tempered glass is harder, smoother, and provides much better drop protection. Plastic film protects against scratches but not much else.
Will a screen protector affect touch sensitivity?
No. Quality tempered glass protectors are thin enough that you won’t notice any difference in touch response.
Can you remove an old screen protector?
Aye. If your current one is cracked or peeling, we’ll take it off and fit a new one.
