Popped in with my broken phone, the team explained what I had broken and what would need to be replaced. Explained the use of genuine parts, correct model and colour matching. Parts took a day longer to arrive, but there was a storm so yknow, these things happen, popped in when parts arrived with phone, an hour later it was ready for collection. Looks better than new! Excellent, good quality and friendly service, highly recommended!

Phone dying and you’re not near a plug? A power bank keeps your phone going when you’re out and about. Commuting, travelling, at a festival, or just having a long day away from home. We stock power banks at our Perth Road shop. Walk in, pick one, and you’ve got backup power in your pocket.

We carry 10,000mAh and 20,000mAh power banks from Devia. Both are compact enough for a pocket or bag, both charge via USB-C, and both are flight-safe under UK airline rules. No waiting for delivery when your phone is about to die.

What We Stock

Devia power banks available at repair alliance dundee
Devia 10,000mAh power banks: Smart Series 12W with power display (left) and Kintone Series with dual input/output (right). Available at our Perth Road shop.

We stock Devia power banks in 10,000mAh capacity. Devia is a brand we’ve sold for years because their products are well-built, reliably safe, and last. The range includes:

Smart Series 12W (10,000mAh). Thin and light design with a digital power display so you can see exactly how much charge is left. USB and USB-C outputs. Charges your phone at up to 12W. Allowed on planes.

Kintone Series (10,000mAh). Dual input and output with USB, Micro USB, and USB-C ports. 2.1A fast charging capability. Compact design. Also flight-safe.

Both models charge most phones from flat to full in about two hours, and can fully charge a modern smartphone roughly twice before needing recharging themselves.

Stock changes, so if you’re after a specific capacity or feature, gee’z a shout on 01382 217272 and we’ll check before you come in.

What Does mAh Actually Mean?

mAh stands for milliamp hours. It’s a measure of how much electrical energy the power bank can store. The higher the number, the more charge it holds, and the more times it can charge your phone.

In practical terms:

  • 5,000mAh gives you roughly one full phone charge
  • 10,000mAh gives you roughly two full phone charges
  • 20,000mAh gives you roughly four full phone charges

There’s a catch though. You don’t get the full rated capacity in practice. Energy is lost as heat during the charging process, so a 10,000mAh power bank actually delivers about 6,000 to 7,000mAh of usable charge to your phone. That’s roughly 60 to 70% efficiency, and it’s normal for all power banks regardless of brand. So a 10,000mAh bank realistically gives you about one and a half to two full phone charges rather than a perfect two.

Modern phones have batteries ranging from about 3,000mAh (smaller models like iPhone SE) to 5,000mAh or more (Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, iPhone 16 Pro Max). So how many charges you get depends on your specific phone. A 10,000mAh bank will charge an iPhone 16 from flat about twice, but a Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra with its larger battery will get about one and a half charges.

For most folk, 10,000mAh is the sweet spot. Enough for a full day’s backup power without being heavy or bulky. If you travel a lot or are a heavy phone user, 20,000mAh gives you more runway but it’s bigger and heavier to carry.

Choosing the Right Power Bank

The right power bank depends on how you’ll use it:

Daily commuter. A 10,000mAh bank fits in a jacket pocket or bag and gives you enough backup for a full day. If your phone regularly dies on the way home from work, this sorts it. Light enough that you won’t notice it in your bag.

Day trips and long days out. 10,000mAh is still plenty. Two phone charges gets you through a day at the football, a day trip to Edinburgh, or a long shift where you can’t get to a plug.

Weekend trips and festivals. 20,000mAh gives you four phone charges. Enough for a weekend camping trip where there’s no electricity, or a music festival where you’re using your phone for photos, videos, and maps all day.

Charging two devices at once. If you need to charge your phone and your partner’s phone at the same time (or your phone and wireless earbuds), look for a power bank with two USB outputs. Both Devia models we stock have dual output ports.

Weight matters. A 10,000mAh bank weighs about 200 to 250 grams. A 20,000mAh bank weighs about 400 to 500 grams, which is noticeable in a pocket. If you’re carrying it every day, lighter is better. If it lives in a backpack, the weight matters less.

Fast Charging from a Power Bank

Not all power banks charge your phone at the same speed. The output wattage determines how fast your phone charges from the power bank.

A basic power bank with 5W output charges your phone slowly. A power bank with 12W to 18W output charges noticeably faster. Premium power banks with 20W+ PD (Power Delivery) output can fast charge modern phones at close to the speed of a wall charger.

Your phone also needs to support fast charging for this to make a difference. Most phones from the last few years do. iPhones from the iPhone 8 onwards support PD fast charging. Samsung Galaxy phones support 15W to 45W depending on the model.

The cable matters too. A basic cable can bottleneck the power delivery. If you’re using a fast-charging power bank, pair it with a PD-rated USB-C cable to get the full speed. We stock those as well.

Worth noting: fast charging generates more heat than slow charging. Your phone and power bank will both get warm. This is normal. If either gets uncomfortably hot, disconnect and let them cool. Quality power banks have temperature monitoring that throttles the output if things get too warm.

Taking a Power Bank on a Plane

Flying from Dundee Airport, Edinburgh, or anywhere else? Here are the UK airline rules for power banks:

Hand luggage only. Power banks must go in your carry-on bag. They are not allowed in checked luggage. This is a universal rule across all airlines because lithium batteries in the cargo hold are a fire risk that cabin crew can’t reach.

Under 100Wh: allowed without approval. This covers all the power banks we sell. A 10,000mAh power bank is about 37Wh. A 20,000mAh bank is about 74Wh. Both well under the 100Wh limit. No need to ask the airline’s permission.

100 to 160Wh: needs airline approval. Larger power banks (roughly 27,000mAh and above) fall into this range. You need to contact your airline before flying. Most will allow it but they want to know about it.

Over 160Wh: banned. Massive power banks and portable power stations over 160Wh can’t fly at all.

Maximum 2 per passenger. You can carry up to two power banks in your hand luggage.

The conversion formula if you need to check: Wh = (mAh x 3.7) / 1000. Both Devia 10,000mAh models we stock come in at 37Wh, safely under the limit and marked as flight-safe on the packaging.

Cheap vs Quality: Why It Matters

You can buy a power bank online for a fiver. Here’s why that’s risky.

Battery quality. Reputable brands use quality lithium cells from manufacturers like Samsung or LG. Cheap power banks use unbranded or recycled cells that are more prone to swelling, overheating, and failure. The battery cells are the single most important component and the one cheap manufacturers cut corners on.

Safety circuits. A quality power bank has overcharge protection (stops charging at 100%), over-discharge protection (shuts off before the battery drains too low), temperature monitoring (throttles or shuts off if it overheats), and short-circuit protection. Cheap power banks often skip some or all of these. Without overcharge protection, a power bank left charging overnight can overheat. Without temperature monitoring, there’s nothing stopping it from getting dangerously hot.

Fake capacity ratings. Some cheap power banks claim 20,000mAh but actually contain far less. There’s no regulation enforcement on capacity claims from unbranded manufacturers. If a “20,000mAh” power bank from a no-name brand only charges your phone twice, it’s probably a 5,000mAh battery with a lying label.

Certifications matter. Look for CE and UKCA marks. These mean the product has been tested against UK and European safety standards. The Devia power banks we stock carry these certifications.

A power bank sits in your pocket next to your leg, in your bag next to your laptop, or charges on your bedside table overnight. A quality one with proper safety circuits is worth the extra few pounds.

Looking After Your Power Bank

Don’t leave it fully discharged. Lithium batteries degrade faster when stored at zero charge. If you’re not using your power bank for a while, charge it to about 50% and store it somewhere cool and dry.

Don’t leave it in direct sunlight or a hot car. Heat is the enemy of lithium batteries. A power bank left on the dashboard in summer can overheat and degrade the cells permanently. Keep it in the shade or in your bag.

Charge it with a decent cable and charger. The same rules that apply to phone cables apply to power bank charging. A cheap cable or an underpowered charger will charge the bank slowly and can stress the cells with inconsistent power delivery.

Replace it if it swells. If your power bank feels puffy, warped, or won’t sit flat like it used to, the battery cells are swelling. Stop using it immediately. Don’t charge it, don’t put it in your pocket. Bring it in and we’ll dispose of it safely. A swollen lithium battery is a fire risk.

Why Buy In-Store

Your phone is dying and you need power now, not tomorrow afternoon. Walk in, grab a power bank, and your phone is charging before you leave the shop.

You also know what you’re getting. We stock quality, safety-certified power banks, not the cheapest unbranded ones from a marketplace seller. We can show you the different models, explain the capacity and output differences, and help you pick the right one for how you’ll use it.

If you also need a charging cable, a phone holder, or a screen protector, we stock those too. Sort everything in one visit.

Common Questions

How much are power banks?

Depends on the capacity. Smaller ones are cheaper, bigger ones cost more. Pop in and see what we have got.

How many times will a power bank charge my phone?

Roughly: 5,000mAh = 1 charge, 10,000mAh = 2-3 charges, 20,000mAh = 4-5 charges. Depends on your phone battery size.

Do power banks support fast charging?

Some of ours do, aye. Check with us on which ones.

Do power banks come with a cable?

Most come with a short USB cable for charging the power bank itself. You will use your own phone cable to charge your phone from it.

How long do power banks last?

A good quality power bank lasts 2-3 years of regular use before the internal battery degrades. The cheap ones do not last as long.
