Mobile Phone Charging Port Repair Dundee
Phone not charging? Charging port repair and replacement at our Perth Road workshop. iPhone, Samsung, Google Pixel and more. Most repairs done same day.
Phone not charging? Whether the cable wobbles, it only works at a certain angle, or it’s completely dead, a faulty charging port is one of the most common phone faults we see.
Before you panic and start shopping for a new phone, it might be something as simple as pocket lint jammed in the port. We check that first. If the port itself is damaged, we replace it. Most charging port repairs are done same day at our Perth Road workshop.
We test everything once the repair is done to make sure it’s all working properly. Charging speed, data transfer, microphone, and any other components on the port assembly. iPhone, Samsung, Google Pixel, Huawei, OnePlus and more. Walk-ins welcome, nae appointment needed. Every repair comes with a 90-day warranty.
Why Your Phone Isn’t Charging
Before you assume the charging port is broken, there are a few things worth ruling out. We see a lot of phones come in for “charging port repair” that turn out to be something simpler.
The most common reason a phone won’t charge is pocket lint. Fluff, dust and debris pack into the charging port over time, compressing at the bottom where the connector sits. Eventually the cable can’t make proper contact. We see this every week. A careful clean out with the right tools often sorts it completely.
Other reasons your phone might not charge:
- Faulty cable. Cables wear out, especially if you bend them at the connector end or wrap them tight. Try a different cable before assuming the port is broken.
- Faulty charger or plug adapter. Same thing. Try a known working charger.
- Software glitch. Occasionally a phone won’t recognise it’s plugged in after an update. A restart can fix it.
- Battery issue. If the battery is completely dead or swollen, it might not take a charge even with a working port.
One quick test you can do at home: if your phone charges wirelessly but won’t charge with a cable, that confirms the port is the problem. The battery and charging circuit are fine. It’s the physical connection that’s failing.
USB-C ports have 24 pins in a tiny connector. That’s a lot of contact points, and it only takes one bent pin to cause problems. Lightning ports are simpler but still vulnerable to debris. Either way, these are precision components that take daily abuse every time you plug in a cable.
Water and moisture can also cause charging issues without any visible damage. If you’ve been caught in the rain or used your phone near steam, moisture can get into the port and cause corrosion on the pins. Some phones will show a “moisture detected” warning when the port is contaminated. Even after the port dries out, the corrosion left behind can cause intermittent charging problems that get worse over time.
If you’ve tried different cables and chargers and it’s still not working, the port itself is likely damaged. Bent pins, corrosion from moisture, or a connector that’s physically loose and wobbles when the cable is plugged in. That’s when it needs replacing.
How We Fix Charging Port Problems
Walk in and tell us what’s happening. Won’t charge at all? Only charges at a certain angle? Charges slowly? Cable falls out? We’ll take a look.
First thing we do is check for lint and debris. You’d be surprised how much compacted fluff can build up in a charging port over months of sitting in pockets and bags. Compressed air alone won’t shift it. The lint packs down hard at the bottom of the port where the connector pins make contact, and it needs careful manual extraction with anti-static tools. Rush it or use the wrong tool and you’ll bend the pins, turning a simple clean into a full port replacement. If lint is all it is and the port itself is fine, the cost is less than a full port replacement, but it’s still a proper repair that needs doing right.
If the port itself is damaged, we replace it. Before we start, we check the rest of the phone so we know exactly what condition it’s in. That way, once the repair is done, we can confirm nothing else has been affected. No surprises for you or for us.
Then we replace the charging port assembly. On most phones this is a separate module that includes the charging port, microphone, and sometimes the headphone jack or vibration motor. We replace the full assembly so everything works properly. That means we need to test all of those components after the repair, not just the charging.
We use quality replacement assemblies, not the cheapest parts off the shelf. There’s a reason budget parts cost less. Cheap charging port replacements can lose fast charging capability entirely, dropping your phone back to slow 5W charging even though it should support 25W or more. The connector tolerances are different, the pin plating is thinner, and they wear out faster. We’d rather fit a part that lasts.
After the repair, we test charging with multiple cables, check fast charging is working at the correct wattage, run our diagnostics, and test the microphone, headphone jack, and any other components on the assembly. Your data stays completely untouched throughout.
Most charging port repairs are done same day. Some models take a bit longer depending on parts availability. We’ll give you a realistic timeframe when you drop it off.

Call UsiPhone Charging Port Repair Dundee
We repair charging ports on every iPhone model from the iPhone 7 right through to the iPhone 17 range. The Lightning port on older iPhones and the USB-C port on the iPhone 15 onwards.
Lightning ports are particularly prone to lint buildup because of the way the connector pushes into the port. If your Lightning cable feels loose or only charges when you hold it at an angle, chances are there’s compacted debris in there. Lightning port damage can also show up as “This accessory may not be supported” errors, even with genuine Apple cables. That same port handles data sync and CarPlay, so if it’s failing you’ll lose those too.
The switch to USB-C on iPhone 15 onwards changed the repair process. Different connector, different assembly, different tools. USB-C ports on newer iPhones are more robust but they have more pins, which means more potential failure points. Bent pins, corrosion, or a port that’s taken a knock can all cause issues.
Once the new port is fitted, we connect our diagnostic software via cable and test everything. Charging speed, data connection, and any related components like the microphone (which sits on the same assembly). We check fast charging is working properly and that the phone communicates correctly with accessories.
Samsung Charging Port Repair Dundee
Samsung phones use USB-C across the range now. The charging port assembly on Samsung phones also includes the microphone and sometimes the speaker, so when we replace the port, we replace the full module.
For Samsung charging port repairs, we use Samsung service pack parts. Original components that fit properly and work exactly as the originals. Aftermarket charging port assemblies can cause issues with fast charging or the microphone quality, and that’s not a compromise worth making.
Samsung’s moisture detection system is sensitive, and it can sometimes throw false warnings even after the port has dried out. If contamination has been in the port, residue on the pins can keep triggering the moisture warning long after the actual moisture is gone. A port replacement sorts that out permanently.
The A series phones tend to have more charging port issues than the S series. The build quality differences between Samsung’s budget and flagship lines show up in the port assembly. Thinner pin plating, less robust connectors, and they wear faster with daily use. We see a lot of A13s, A14s, and A15s come in with port problems.
Fast charging puts more stress on the port connections over time too. Samsung’s 25W and 45W fast charging pushes more current through those pins, and on a port that’s already wearing out, that accelerates the problem. If your Samsung is charging slowly or dropping in and out of fast charging mode, the port is likely on its way out.
Google Pixel & Other Brands
Google Pixel charging port repairs use Google service pack parts. Same original quality, same fit, same fast charging support. Pixel phones have their own quirks with the port assembly, and using the correct parts matters.
For Huawei, OnePlus, Xiaomi and Motorola, we use quality aftermarket charging port assemblies from trusted suppliers. Parts for less common models may take a bit longer to source, but we’ll tell you upfront and give you a realistic timeframe.
Whatever brand, the same process. We check it, diagnose the issue, quote you a fair price, fix it, and test everything before handing it back.
Charging Port Repair vs Buying a New Phone
A charging port is one of the cheapest repairs we do. If that’s the only thing wrong with your device, it makes zero sense to buy a new phone over it. Your phone goes from unusable to fully working for a fraction of what you’d spend on a replacement.
Some folk put up with it for weeks, charging at weird angles or using wireless charging as a workaround. But a dodgy charging port gets worse over time, not better. The connection gets looser, the pins corrode, and eventually it stops working altogether.
Here’s what people don’t think about: if your charging port is broken, you can’t back up your phone to a computer. You can’t do a proper software restore if something goes wrong. If the battery dies completely, you’ve got a brick with all your photos and messages trapped inside it. A working port isn’t just about charging. It’s your lifeline to recovering everything on that phone if something goes sideways.
Get it sorted now rather than later. The longer you leave a failing port, the more risk you’re carrying. Save yourself the hassle and the stress of a phone that might die on you at the worst possible moment. A charging port repair takes less than an hour for most models.
As always, if the phone has multiple problems and the repair doesn’t make financial sense, we’ll tell you. We sell refurbished phones too if you’d rather go that route.
Wireless Charging as a Backup
If your phone supports wireless charging and you’re waiting to get the port fixed, a wireless charger can keep you going in the meantime. We sell wireless chargers in the shop if you need one.
That said, not all phones support wireless charging. Most budget and mid-range models don’t have it. If you’ve got a Samsung A series, a Pixel A series, or a budget Motorola, wireless charging probably isn’t an option for you.
Even if your phone does support it, wireless charging is slower than wired. You’re looking at 7.5W to 15W on most phones, compared to 25W or more over a cable. That’s a big difference when you need your phone charged quickly before heading out.
But the real problem with relying on wireless charging because your port is broken is this: you still need the port for emergency recovery mode, software updates that require a computer connection, and wired file transfers. If your phone crashes, freezes on a boot loop, or needs a factory reset, you need to plug it into a computer. No port means no recovery. You’re one software crash away from losing access to your phone entirely.
Wireless charging is a handy feature when everything works. It’s not a substitute for a functioning port. Get the port fixed properly. It’s a quick repair and your phone will work the way it’s supposed to.
Common Questions
How much does a charging port repair cost?
Depends on the model. We quote on the spot. Diagnostic fee comes off the repair if you go ahead.
How long does a charging port repair take?
Most are done same day. We budget a minimum of one hour but some models take longer depending on parts.
My phone only charges at a certain angle. Is the port broken?
Maybe, but it’s often just lint packed in the port. We’ll check and clean it first. If the port itself is damaged, we’ll quote you for a replacement.
Will I lose my data?
No. Charging port repair doesn’t touch your data. Everything stays where it is.
Can you fix a USB-C port?
Aye. We repair both Lightning and USB-C charging ports on all phone brands.
My phone charges slowly. Is that the port?
Could be. Could also be the cable, the charger, or the battery. We’ll test everything and tell you what the actual problem is before charging you for a repair.
Is it worth fixing the charging port on an older phone?
If the phone works fine otherwise, usually aye. A charging port repair is cheap compared to a new phone. We’ll tell you if it’s not worth it.
Do you clean charging ports?
Aye. If lint or debris is the problem, we carefully clean it out. Costs less than a full port replacement.
