Cable Types We Stock

Charging cable packed in? Left it at work? Dog chewed it? We stock Lightning cables, USB-C cables, and micro USB cables at our Perth Road shop. Walk in, grab one, and you are sorted. No waiting for next-day delivery when your phone is on 3%.

We stock the three main types of phone charging cable:

USB-C – Used by most modern phones. Samsung, Google Pixel, Huawei, OnePlus, Xiaomi, Motorola, and iPhone 15 onwards. Also used by iPads, MacBooks, and most new laptops. If your phone was made in the last few years, this is probably what you need.

Not all USB-C cables are the same. A standard USB-C cable handles basic charging and data transfer. A USB-C PD (Power Delivery) cable supports fast charging on phones that have it. If your phone supports 25W, 45W, or 65W fast charging, you need a PD cable to get those speeds. A standard cable will still charge your phone, just slower. We stock both standard and PD cables so you can pick what you need.

Lightning – Apple cable for iPhone 14 and earlier, older iPads, and AirPods. Still widely needed even though Apple switched to USB-C on newer models. Millions of Lightning devices still in daily use.

We stock MFi certified Lightning cables. MFi (Made for iPhone) means the cable is certified by Apple to work properly with your device. Non-certified cables can trigger ‘This accessory may not be supported’ warnings, charge slowly, or stop working after an iOS update. MFi cables cost a bit more but they work reliably every time.

Micro USB – Older cable type still used by some budget phones, Bluetooth speakers, older tablets, and various accessories. Less common now but we stock them for folk who still need them.

We also stock longer cables (2m and 3m) for folk who like to use their phone while it charges on the other side of the room.

Which Cable Do I Need

USB-C is oval-shaped and symmetrical. The plug goes in either way up.

Lightning is a thin, flat connector. Only on Apple devices.

Micro USB is a small, trapezoid-shaped connector. Only goes in one way.

If your phone is an iPhone 15, 16, or 17, you need USB-C. If it is an iPhone 14 or older, you need Lightning. If it is any Samsung, Google Pixel, or most other Android phones made in the last 5 years, you need USB-C.

Why Cables Break

Most cables die because folk bend them at the connector end. Plugging your phone in and then lying it flat on the bedside table puts stress on the cable right where it joins the plug. Over time, the wires inside break.

Wrapping the cable tightly around a charger plug when travelling does the same thing. The wires fatigue and snap internally, even if the outside looks fine.

Cheap cables fail faster because the internal wiring is thinner and the strain relief at the connector is weaker. We stock cables with decent build quality that last longer than the ones you get for a quid from the market.

If you find yourself replacing cables every few months, try not to bend them sharply at the connector end. A right-angle cable can help if you charge your phone on your bedside table.
