About the iPad 4th Gen
The iPad 4th Gen (A1458, A1459, A1460) was released in 2012 as the first iPad with a Lightning connector. It features an 9.7-inch 2048x1536 Retina display powered by the Apple A6X chip. It replaced the 30-pin dock connector with Lightning and delivered a significant graphics boost. It was also the first iPad offered with 128GB storage. We repair every component at our Perth Road workshop in Dundee.
Common iPad 4th Gen repairs include cracked front glass, Lightning port damage from years of use, home button failure, and severely degraded batteries. The transition to Lightning means charging port repairs use a different part than the iPad 2 and 3rd Gen. Battery replacements are common given the age of these devices. Our technicians have over 20 years' combined experience with iPad repairs and handle everything from straightforward screen replacements to complex board-level diagnostics.

How much does it cost to fix a cracked iPad 4th Gen screen?
The iPad 4th Gen has a non-laminated display, which means the glass digitizer and LCD are separate layers. If only the glass is cracked and the LCD underneath is fine, a glass-only repair is possible, which keeps costs down. Drap it in to our Perth Road workshop for a diagnostic and we'll give you an accurate quote.
Is it worth replacing the battery in my iPad 4th Gen?
Aye, it depends on what you use it for. The iPad 4th Gen is from 2012, so the battery will definitely be degraded by now. If it still does what you need - browsing, videos, reading - a new battery can give it a proper lease of life for a fraction of the cost of a new iPad. Come in and we'll give you an honest assessment of whether it's worth the repair.
My iPad 4th Gen won't charge properly - can you fix that?
Aye, charging issues are one of the most common iPad 4th Gen problems we see. It's usually the Lightning port getting clogged with pocket lint and dust, or the port itself wearing out from years of plugging and unplugging. Sometimes a good clean sorts it, other times the port needs replacing. Either way, bring it in and we'll have a look - we ken whit we're daein with Lightning repairs.
My iPad 4th Gen home button isn't working - can you replace it?
Aye, we can replace the home button on the iPad 4th Gen. On this model, the home button is a standard mechanical button without Touch ID, so a replacement will work fully. Drap it in to our Perth Road workshop and we'll get it sorted. Usually a straightforward repair.
How do I know if my iPad is an iPad 4th Gen?
The easiest way is to check the back of your iPad for the model number - it's printed in small text near the bottom. The iPad 4th Gen uses model numbers A1458, A1459, A1460. You can also go to Settings > General > About and look for the Model Number field. If you're still not sure, just bring it in to our Perth Road workshop and we'll identify it for you in seconds - nae bother.
Is the iPad 4th Gen still worth repairing in 2012?
It depends on the repair cost versus what you use it for. The iPad 4th Gen from 2012 won't run the latest iPadOS anymore, but it's still perfectly fine for web browsing, email, videos, and reading. If a screen or battery repair costs a fraction of buying even a used replacement, it can make sense. We'll always give you an honest assessment - we're not going to talk you into a repair that's not worth it.
