About the iPhone 12
The iPhone 12 (models A2172, A2402, A2403, A2404) brought a complete design overhaul when it arrived in October 2020, returning to the flat-edged aesthetic that folk loved from the iPhone 4 and 5 era. It was Apple's first 5G iPhone, pairing the A14 Bionic chip with a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display. The first time the standard iPhone got an OLED panel. Ceramic Shield on the front glass promised four times better drop performance, and MagSafe magnetic charging made its debut. The dual 12MP camera gained Night Mode on both lenses and a wider aperture for better low-light performance. We repair every component of the iPhone 12 at our Perth Road shop in Dundee's West End.
The iPhone 12 is one of the most popular iPhones we see at our DD2 1AR workshop. Despite the Ceramic Shield, cracked screens are still the number one repair, no glass is indestructible. MagSafe relies on the charging coil and magnets in the back of the phone. If it has stopped working, it could be a coil fault or back glass damage disrupting the connection. We'll diagnose it at our Dundee workshop and give you options.
Is the iPhone 12 battery starting to degrade in 2026?
Aye, many iPhone 12 batteries are now below 80% health. That means shorter battery life and possible performance throttling. A battery replacement is a quick, affordable fix that brings it back to full capacity.
Can you fix Face ID on my iPhone 12?
In many cases, aye. If the TrueDepth camera system was damaged from a drop, we can replace the assembly. Some secure enclave faults are not repairable - we'll diagnose it properly and give you honest advice.
Does Ceramic Shield mean the iPhone 12 screen never cracks?
Unfortunately not. Ceramic Shield is tougher than standard glass but it is not shatterproof. We still see plenty of cracked iPhone 12 screens at our Dundee workshop. It is more resistant to scratches though.
