About the iPhone 15
The iPhone 15 (models A2846, A3089, A3090, A3092) was the iPhone that finally ditched Lightning for USB-C, and it brought the Dynamic Island to the standard iPhone for the first time. Released in September 2023, it packed the A16 Bionic chip (the same silicon from the iPhone 14 Pro), a 48MP main camera with 2x telephoto through sensor cropping, and a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with the Dynamic Island up top. The Ceramic Shield front got tougher, and the colour-infused back glass came in five fresh colours including pink and green. It is one of the most popular devices we see at our Dundee repair shop on Perth Road in the West End.
The iPhone 15 hits a brilliant sweet spot between price and capability. At our DD2 1AR workshop, cracked screens are the most common repair, despite the improved Ceramic Shield, no glass is drop-proof. Battery replacements will become more relevant as these devices age, though most 15s are still within healthy battery range. The switch to USB-C means the charging port is now a different component than previous iPhones, and while USB-C is more durable than Lightning, it still wears out over time.
