About the iPhone 8 Plus
The iPhone 8 Plus (models A1864, A1897, A1898) was the grand finale of Apple's big-screen home-button iPhone design. Released in September 2017, it combined a 5.5-inch Retina HD display with the dual 12MP camera system, wireless Qi charging, and the same A11 Bionic chip that powered the iPhone X. The dual camera brought Portrait Mode with Portrait Lighting effects, letting you shoot studio-quality portraits right from your pocket. The glass back was gorgeous but also the price of admission for wireless charging. Apple's True Tone display technology made the screen easier on the eyes by matching its colour temperature to the room's lighting. We repair every part of this phone at our Dundee shop on Perth Road.
The iPhone 8 Plus hits a sweet spot that keeps folk using them well into 2026. It runs iOS 16, has a capable dual camera, and the 5.5-inch display is still a comfortable size for everyday use. Aye, we can replace the full dual camera module or diagnose which individual lens has failed. If Portrait Mode is not working but regular photos are fine, it is usually the telephoto lens. Drap it in and we'll have a look.
How much does an iPhone 8 Plus back glass replacement cost?
Back glass repair on the 8 Plus traditionally requires a housing replacement as the glass is strongly bonded. We'll give you a straight quote at our Perth Road workshop. It is pricier than a screen repair but much cheaper than a new phone.
Does the iPhone 8 Plus still get software updates?
The 8 Plus topped out at iOS 16, which is very capable. Most apps still support it and Apple pushes security updates periodically. With the A11 Bionic chip, it handles modern tasks without any lag.

Usually aye. Quiet earpiece audio is often caused by a blocked speaker grille or a failing earpiece speaker. We'll check both at our Dundee workshop. If it needs a new speaker, it is a quick and affordable repair.
