About the iPhone 8
The iPhone 8 (models A1863, A1905, A1906) was the last of Apple's classic home-button iPhone designs, and in many ways it perfected the formula before Apple moved to the all-screen iPhone X. Released in September 2017, it introduced wireless charging to the iPhone for the first time thanks to its glass back panel, and packed the A11 Bionic chip. The same processor that powered the iPhone X. The 12MP camera gained a larger and faster sensor, and True Tone display technology adjusted the screen colour temperature to match ambient lighting. Can you replace the glass back on an iPhone 8?
Aye. The back glass on the iPhone 8 is bonded on and traditionally requires a full housing replacement. We can handle this at our Perth Road workshop. It is a bigger job than a screen repair but we'll give you a fair price.
Does replacing the iPhone 8 screen affect wireless charging?
No, the wireless charging coil is in Settings > General > About. A screen replacement won't affect wireless charging at all.
How long does an iPhone 8 battery replacement take in Dundee?
About 25 minutes. The battery is well-positioned for easy access. If your 8 is dying before teatime, a fresh battery will sort it. Pop into our Perth Road shop - there is free parking behind the building.
My iPhone 8 True Tone display has stopped working after a screen repair elsewhere - can you fix that?
True Tone data is stored on a chip on the original screen. If a previous repair shop didnae transfer the chip, True Tone won't work. We can programme a new screen with True Tone data if the original is available. Gee'z a shout to discuss.
Is the iPhone 8 still a good phone in 2026?
The iPhone 8 runs iOS 16, which is very solid. The A11 Bionic chip handles everyday tasks smoothly, and the camera is perfectly decent for social media and everyday photos. A battery swap is usually all it needs to feel like new again.
Can you fix water damage on an iPhone 8?
