About the iPhone SE 1st Gen
The iPhone SE 1st Generation (models A1723, A1662, A1724) was Apple's answer to everyone who wanted flagship performance in a compact body. Released in March 2016, it crammed the A9 chip and 12MP camera from the iPhone 6S into the beloved 4-inch iPhone 5S design, making it the most powerful small phone you could buy. It kept Touch ID, the aluminium body, and the headphone jack, while adding support for 4K video recording, Live Photos, and Apple Pay via NFC. For folk who didnae want a bigger phone, the original SE was a dream come true. We repair every component at our Perth Road workshop in Dundee's West End.
The SE 1st Gen is a favourite among folk who prefer a phone that actually fits comfortably in one hand. We still see these wee devices regularly at our DD2 1AR shop, and the repairs are straightforward. Cracked 4-inch screens are the most common fix, followed by battery replacements for cells that have been through years of charge cycles. The Lightning port wears out, the home button can fail, and the power button flex cable is the same weak point as the iPhone 5S it is based on. Despite its small size, the A9 chip means it ran up to iOS 15, remarkably good longevity for such a compact device.
