About the iPod Touch 6th Gen
The iPod Touch 6th Generation (A1574) was released in 2015 with a significant performance boost thanks to the Apple A8 chip with M8 motion coprocessor, the same chip that powered the iPhone 6. It kept the 4-inch Retina display but gained an improved 8MP iSight camera with slow-motion video, burst mode, and 1080p recording. Available in six colours with up to 128GB storage, it was the first iPod Touch to support Apple Music streaming. It ran iOS up to version 12.5.7. We repair every component at our Perth Road workshop in Dundee.
The iPod Touch 6th Gen is still in active use as a music player, gaming device, and lightweight communication tool. The most common repairs we see are cracked screens, batteries that no longer hold a charge (these cells are now approaching a decade old), Lightning port failures, and power button issues. The 4-inch display uses a fused digitizer and LCD assembly. Our technicians have over 20 years' combined experience and regularly work on this generation of iPod.
The iPod Touch 6th Gen packed iPhone 6 power into that classic iPod form factor. If yours is struggling, drap it in to our Perth Road workshop and we will see what we can do. We are always straight about whether a repair makes sense.
The iPod Touch 6th Generation shipped as a single model (A1574) worldwide. All units are WiFi-only and share identical internal hardware, so replacement parts are universal across all storage sizes and colours.

Can you still get parts for an iPod Touch 6th Gen?
Aye, we can still source screens, batteries, Lightning connectors, and other components for the 6th Gen. Bring it to our Perth Road workshop and we will check what you need.
My iPod Touch 6th Gen screen is cracked but still works. Should I repair it?
A cracked screen can worsen over time and eventually stop responding to touch. If you still use the device, getting it fixed now prevents further damage. We will give you an honest quote.
How long does a battery replacement take on the iPod Touch 6th Gen?
About 30 minutes. The battery in these models is well past its expected lifespan by now, so a fresh cell can make a dramatic difference to how long it lasts between charges.

Random restarts can be caused by a failing battery, software corruption, or a hardware fault. Bring it in to our Dundee workshop and we will run diagnostics to identify the root cause.
Is it worth repairing an iPod Touch 6th Gen in 2026?
It depends on what you use it for. As a music player, kids' device, or secondary device, a repair is usually much cheaper than buying new. We will always tell you straight.
How do I know if my iPod is a 6th Generation?
The 6th Gen looks almost identical to the 5th Gen but without the loop attachment on the back. Model number A1574 is printed in small text on the back. If you are unsure, bring it in and we will identify it in seconds.
