The Mac mini A3238/A3239 (2024) is a complete redesign and the smallest Mac mini ever built. At roughly 5 inches square, it is dramatically smaller than every previous model. The A3238 houses the M4 chip while the A3239 packs the M4 Pro, both with Apple Intelligence built in. Memory options range from 16GB to 64GB of unified memory, with SSD storage from 256GB to 8TB. Common issues include Thunderbolt port problems, no power situations, Bluetooth connectivity issues, and fan noise under sustained load. We repair all of these at our Perth Road workshop in Dundee.
The nano form factor means components are packed even more tightly than before, and everything is soldered to the logic board. Board-level repair is the only option for any hardware failure. The M4 Pro model (A3239) adds Thunderbolt 5 for the first time in a Mac mini, along with higher memory and storage ceilings. Two model numbers cover the 2024 range: A3238 for the M4 variant and A3239 for the M4 Pro variant. The M4 model has three Thunderbolt 4 ports on the back plus USB-C on the front, while the M4 Pro has three Thunderbolt 5 ports on the back. Both feature HDMI 2.1 and configurable Ethernet up to 10Gb.
