About the Xbox Series S

The Xbox Series S (model 1883) was launched alongside the Series X in November 2020 as the smaller, more affordable next-gen Xbox. It is the smallest Xbox ever made, running entirely digital with no disc drive. Despite its compact size, it delivers 1440p gaming with ray tracing, 120fps support, and the same Quick Resume feature as the Series X, powered by a custom AMD Zen 2 CPU and RDNA 2 GPU. We repair every component at our Perth Road workshop in Dundee.

The Series S is popular for its small size and affordable price, but repairs do come up. HDMI port damage from cable strain, overheating in enclosed TV cabinets, SSD issues, and power faults are the most common. The all-digital design eliminates disc drive failures but the compact chassis means heat management is important. Our technicians have over 20 years' combined experience with console repairs.

The Series S is a cracking wee console. All-digital, tiny, and next-gen performance. If yours has stopped working, drap it in to Perth Road. We will get it back on.

The Xbox Series S originally shipped as a 512GB model, with a 1TB "Carbon Black" revision released in 2023. Both share identical internals except for storage capacity.

Xbox Series S Repair Questions

My Xbox Series S HDMI port is damaged. Can you fix it?

Aye, HDMI 2.1 port replacement requires careful board-level soldering. We handle this at our Perth Road workshop.

My Xbox Series S keeps overheating. Is that fixable?

The compact design means airflow is critical. Dust buildup and poor ventilation cause overheating. We clean the internals and check the thermal system.

Can you add more storage to my Xbox Series S?

The internal SSD is soldered, but the expansion card slot on the back accepts the Seagate Storage Expansion Card. We can help you set that up.

My Xbox Series S will not turn on. What could be wrong?

Power issues can be the internal PSU, a board fault, or a software brick. We will diagnose it at our Dundee workshop.

Is the Xbox Series S worth repairing?

It is still a current-gen console with years of support ahead. A repair is much cheaper than buying new. We will be honest about whether it makes sense.

How do I know if I have a Series S or a One S?

The Series S is smaller, has a large black circular vent on top, and no disc drive. The One S is larger with a disc slot on the front. Check Settings, System, Console info for the model number.
