About the PlayStation 4

The PlayStation 4 (CUH-1000 series) launched in November 2013 as Sony's eighth-generation console, selling over 117 million units worldwide. It featured 8GB GDDR5 unified memory, a custom AMD APU, and introduced the DualShock 4 controller with its signature touchpad and light bar. Multiple hardware revisions (CUH-1000, CUH-1100, CUH-1200) improved power efficiency and reduced fan noise over the original's lifespan. We repair every component at our Perth Road workshop in Dundee.

After over a decade of service, PS4 consoles regularly need attention. The most common repairs are HDMI port replacement (the port is fragile and gets damaged from cable strain), overheating from years of accumulated dust and degraded thermal paste, disc drive failures, hard drive replacement or SSD upgrade, and controller stick drift. The original PS4 runs hotter than the Slim, so thermal maintenance is especially important. Our technicians have over 20 years' combined experience with console repairs.

The PS4 is still a brilliant console with a massive game library. If yours is overheating, blinking blue, or the HDMI has gone, drap it in to our Perth Road workshop. We will sort it oot.

Multiple revisions exist: CUH-1000 (launch), CUH-1100 (revised), CUH-1200 (final, quieter/lighter). All share identical repair parts for HDMI ports, disc drives, power supplies, and fans.

PlayStation 4 Repair Questions

My PS4 has the blinking blue light of death. Can you fix it?

The blue light issue is usually an HDMI port fault, a power supply problem, or a hard drive failure. We diagnose the exact cause at our Perth Road workshop.

Can you fix the HDMI port on my PS4?

Aye, HDMI port replacement is one of our most common PS4 repairs. It requires board-level soldering. We handle it regularly.

My PS4 sounds like a jet engine. Can you quieten it?

That is dust buildup and old thermal paste. We clean the internals and replace the thermal compound. Makes a huge difference.

Can you upgrade my PS4 hard drive to an SSD?

Aye, the PS4 uses a standard 2.5-inch SATA drive that is easy to swap. An SSD dramatically reduces load times. We can do the swap and reinstall the system software.

My PS4 disc drive is not accepting or reading discs. Can you fix it?

Disc drive failures are common after years of use. Could be the laser, the rollers, or the eject mechanism. Bring it in and we will diagnose it.

Is it worth repairing a PS4 in 2026?

If you still play PS4 games, absolutely. The game library is massive and a repair is a fraction of the cost of a new console. We will always give you an honest assessment.
