About the PlayStation 5 Slim
The PlayStation 5 Slim (CFI-2000 series) launched in November 2023 as a smaller, lighter redesign of the original PS5. It is approximately 30% smaller by volume, ships with 1TB of SSD storage (up from 825GB), and introduced a detachable disc drive that can be purchased separately for the digital edition. The internal hardware delivers identical gaming performance to the original PS5. We repair every component at our Perth Road workshop in Dundee.
The PS5 Slim shares most repair issues with the original PS5: HDMI 2.1 port damage, overheating, fan noise, and disc drive problems (on the disc model). The smaller chassis means heat management is slightly different, and the detachable disc drive mechanism introduces a new potential failure point with its connector. Our technicians have over 20 years' combined experience.
The PS5 Slim looks great but still has the same HDMI and thermal issues as the original. If yours is playing up, drap it in to Perth Road. We are already very familiar with the new design.
CFI-2000A is the disc edition, CFI-2000B is the digital edition. Both can accept the detachable disc drive. All share identical internals for HDMI, fan, PSU, and SSD repairs.

Aye, same HDMI 2.1 port as the original PS5. Board-level soldering repair. We handle it at our Perth Road workshop.
My PS5 Slim detachable disc drive is not working. Can you fix it?
The detachable drive has a connector that can develop issues. Bring the console and drive in and we will diagnose whether it is the drive or the connector.
My PS5 Slim is running hotter than expected. Is that normal?
The smaller chassis can run warm under heavy gaming. If it is shutting down or the fan is excessively loud, dust and thermal paste may need attention. Drap it in.
Can you add more storage to my PS5 Slim?
Aye, same M.2 expansion slot as the original PS5. We can install an additional NVMe SSD for you.
What is the difference between CFI-2000A and CFI-2000B?
A is the disc edition with the built-in drive. B is the digital edition without a drive. The digital edition can add the detachable drive later.
Is the PS5 Slim the same power as the original PS5?
Aye, identical gaming performance. The Slim uses a more efficient 6nm chip process but outputs the same graphics and frame rates.
