About the PlayStation 5

The PlayStation 5 (CFI-1000/1100/1200 series) launched in November 2020 as Sony's ninth-generation flagship console. The custom AMD Zen 2 CPU and 10.28 TFLOP RDNA 2 GPU deliver 4K gaming at up to 120fps with hardware ray tracing. The revolutionary DualSense controller introduced haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, and the custom 825GB NVMe SSD virtually eliminated load times. Available in disc and digital editions. We repair every component at our Perth Road workshop in Dundee.

PS5 repairs are increasing as the consoles age. Common issues include HDMI 2.1 port damage (the port is surprisingly fragile), overheating and loud fan noise from dust accumulation, disc drive failures (disc edition), power supply faults, and SSD expansion issues. The CFI-1200 revision runs cooler and lighter than the launch model. DualSense controllers also develop stick drift, similar to Joy-Con issues on the Switch. Our technicians have over 20 years' combined experience.

The PS5 is a serious piece of kit. If yours willnae turn on, the HDMI has gone, or it sounds like a hoover, drap it in to our Perth Road workshop. We work on PS5s every week.

Three main revisions: CFI-1000 (launch), CFI-1100 (revised heatsink and lighter), CFI-1200 (smallest and lightest, different PSU). Both disc (A suffix) and digital (B suffix) editions share identical internals except for the disc drive.

PlayStation 5 Repair Questions

Can you fix the HDMI port on my PS5?

Aye, HDMI 2.1 port replacement is precision board-level soldering. It is one of our most common PS5 repairs. The port is surprisingly fragile.

My PS5 keeps turning off by itself. What is wrong?

Auto shutdown is usually thermal (overheating protection) or a PSU fault. We diagnose the root cause at our Perth Road workshop.

My PS5 disc drive is making grinding noises. Can you fix it?

Grinding usually means the drive mechanism is failing. We can repair or replace the disc drive.

Can you add more storage to my PS5?

The PS5 has an M.2 expansion slot for a second NVMe SSD. We can install one for you. The internal 825GB SSD is not user-replaceable.

My DualSense controller has stick drift. Can you fix it?

Aye, we replace the analog stick module in DualSense controllers. Same concept as Joy-Con drift repair. Bring the controller in.

Which PS5 revision do I have?

Check the model number on the back label. CFI-1000 is launch, CFI-1100 is mid revision, CFI-1200 is the latest original design. Settings, System, Console Information also shows it.

PS5 Gone Dark? We Will Get It Back On.

Walk-ins welcome. Most repairs done same day.
