A MacBook Pro 16 inch came in from a customer up in the Hilltown area, a 2021 A2485 model with a thin purple line running down one side of the display. The rest of the screen looked fine at a glance, but a single line like that is a dead giveaway that the LCD panel itself has taken a knock or a pressure spot, usually from something sat on the closed lid or a bag with a hard edge pressing through.
On the 16 inch MacBook Pro from 2021 onwards Apple do not sell the screen on its own. The display assembly is the whole top case: the LCD, the glass, the hinges, the antennas, the camera, and the lid, all as one unit. A line on the panel means the whole thing comes off.
We stripped the back cover, disconnected the battery as the first move, lifted the speakers and antenna covers, pulled the display flex cable, then took the torx screws out of each hinge to separate the old assembly from the body. New assembly in, screws torqued in the right sequence, flex cable reseated, battery reconnected, back on.
Powered it up and the new panel came up clean. No lines, no dead pixels, full backlight uniformity. The coloured squares you can see on the display in the photo are the factory QC stickers on the protective film the genuine replacement assembly shipped with - each sticker marks a test the panel passed before it left the line. Customer was back on their laptop for a deadline the next day.
