Tablet Screen Repair Dundee
Tablet screen cracked? We repair iPad, Samsung Galaxy Tab, Microsoft Surface and more at our Perth Road workshop. Most tablet screen repairs done same day.
Tablet screen cracked? Whether it’s an iPad that’s been dropped, a Samsung Galaxy Tab with a shattered display, or a Microsoft Surface with a cracked touchscreen, we fix them all. Tablets get dropped more than phones because they’re bigger, heavier, and harder to grip. Kids use them, they get passed around the family, they slide off couch cushions onto tile floors.
A cracked tablet screen isn’t just cosmetic. The glass can cut your fingers, moisture gets in through the cracks, and the touch often stops responding properly in the damaged area. Cracks spread over time with temperature changes and daily use. What starts as a small crack in the corner can turn into a web across the whole display within weeks.
At Repair Alliance on Perth Road, we repair tablet screens on all major brands. iPad, Samsung Galaxy Tab, Microsoft Surface, Huawei, Lenovo, Amazon Fire. We replace the full screen assembly and test touch response across the entire display.
For iPads, we run our diagnostic software before and after the repair. It tests touch response across the full screen, checks camera function (front and rear), speakers, microphone, button response, battery health and charge cycle count. You get a complete health report printed out so you know exactly what condition your tablet is in.
Most tablet screen repairs are done same day. Walk-ins welcome, nae appointment needed. Every repair comes with a 90-day warranty.
Common Tablet Screen Problems
Cracked glass is the most common fault. Tablets have big screens and they’re heavy enough that a drop from coffee table height is enough to shatter the glass. Sometimes the LCD or OLED panel underneath survives and still shows a picture. Other times you get black spots, coloured lines, or areas where the display is completely dead.
Touch not responding is the second most common issue after a drop. The digitiser (the touch-sensitive layer) can crack even if the glass looks intact. You tap the screen and nothing happens in certain areas. Or the touch registers in the wrong place, or the screen has phantom touches where it registers taps you didn’t make. Phantom touches are particularly annoying because the tablet opens apps, types random letters, and generally does things on its own.
Screen separating from the frame happens on older tablets. The adhesive that holds the screen to the body weakens over time, especially in warm environments or if the tablet lives in a case that traps heat. You’ll notice a gap around the edge of the screen, or the screen lifts slightly when you press on it. This lets dust and moisture in and needs resealing or a new screen.
LCD bleed and backlight issues show up as bright spots or uneven brightness around the edges of the screen, usually after a drop or pressure damage. This is internal panel damage and won’t fix itself.
Water damage after a cracked screen is more common than people think. Once the glass is cracked, the tablet’s moisture seal is broken. A spilled drink, steam from the kitchen, or even just high humidity can get in through those cracks and corrode the circuit board. What was a simple screen repair turns into a water damage job.
iPad Screen Repair
We repair screens on every iPad model. The standard iPad, iPad Air, iPad Mini, and iPad Pro in all sizes.
The standard iPad is the one we see most. It’s the most popular iPad model, used by families, schools, and folk who want a tablet without spending a fortune. The screen uses LCD technology and is the most affordable iPad screen to replace. Generations from the iPad 5th gen onwards use a non-laminated display, which means the glass and the LCD are separate layers. This can actually make repair easier because sometimes we can replace just the cracked glass digitiser without replacing the entire LCD panel, keeping the cost down.
The iPad Air uses Apple’s Liquid Retina display with a fully laminated screen. Glass and LCD are bonded together as one unit with no air gap. Better display quality (colours look richer, the image appears right at the surface), but the full assembly needs replacing if either layer is damaged. More expensive than the standard iPad but still a fraction of buying a new Air.
The iPad Mini is the same story as the Air on newer models. Laminated display, compact size, popular with folk who want a portable reading and media device. The smaller screen is cheaper to replace than the larger models.
The iPad Pro is the premium model with ProMotion 120Hz display on the 11″ and 12.9″/13″ models. These are expensive tablets with M-series chips, and the screens are the most expensive to replace. But when your iPad Pro cost over a thousand pounds, a screen repair is still the obvious choice over buying new.
For every iPad repair, we run diagnostic software before and after. The pre-repair diagnostic tells us whether anything else is damaged beyond the screen. The post-repair diagnostic confirms everything works properly. It tests touch accuracy at hundreds of points across the display, checks front and rear camera focus and exposure, tests all speakers and the microphone, verifies button response, and reads battery health data including charge cycles and maximum capacity. You get a printed report.
Apple doesn’t cover accidental damage under standard warranty. AppleCare+ covers it with a deductible, but our repair prices are competitive with Apple’s own pricing and we don’t need you to have a subscription.
Samsung Galaxy Tab Screen Repair
Samsung tablets use two different screen technologies depending on the model range, and it matters for repair.
The premium Tab S series (S8, S9, S10 and their Plus/Ultra variants) use Super AMOLED displays. These screens produce vibrant colours with deep blacks because each pixel produces its own light. There’s no backlight layer. The display looks stunning, but AMOLED panels cost more to manufacture and replace. When an AMOLED screen cracks, the damage is often more visible because broken pixels show as black or green blotches rather than the white backlight bleed you see on LCD.
The budget Tab A series (A7, A8, A9) use LCD screens with LED backlighting. These are more affordable to repair. The display quality is good but not as striking as AMOLED. LCD damage typically shows as white patches, coloured lines, or areas where the backlight bleeds through cracks in the panel.
For Samsung tablet screen repairs, we use Samsung service pack screens. Same policy as Samsung phones. Aftermarket Samsung screens don’t match the colour accuracy, brightness, or touch sensitivity. The service pack includes the screen, digitiser, and frame as one unit for a clean repair with proper colour calibration.
The Galaxy Tab S8, S9, and S10 series are the models we see most. Samsung tablets are popular with folk who want an Android tablet for media, browsing, and productivity. The S Pen support on Tab S models makes them popular for note-taking and drawing, and the S Pen continues to work perfectly with the replacement screen.
A cracked screen on a tablet you use every day is worth fixing, especially when the repair costs a fraction of replacement.
Microsoft Surface Screen Repair
Microsoft Surface tablets are among the trickiest devices to repair. The screen is bonded to the magnesium alloy chassis with industrial-strength adhesive, and there’s very little room for error during removal. Not every repair shop will attempt a Surface screen replacement. We do, because we’ve invested in the tools and developed the technique through experience.
We repair the Surface Pro, Surface Go, and Surface Laptop (which has a tablet-style touchscreen). The Surface Pro is the model we see most.
The adhesive Microsoft uses is extremely strong. Simply prying the screen off risks cracking it further or snapping the thin LCD panel behind the glass. The correct approach involves slow, even heat application around all four edges to soften the adhesive before any separation begins. We use controlled heating mats that maintain a consistent temperature. Too much heat damages the LCD. Too little and the adhesive doesn’t release. It takes patience.
Once the heat has softened the adhesive, we work around the perimeter with thin separation tools, gradually freeing the screen from the chassis. The flex cables connecting the screen to the motherboard need careful handling. One snag and you’re looking at additional damage.
The display on Surface devices is high resolution and touch-sensitive with pen support (Surface Pen). We test touch response across the full screen, Surface Pen input including pressure sensitivity and tilt, and display quality at full resolution after every repair.
Surface repairs cost more than iPad or Samsung tablet repairs because of the complexity, the time involved, and the parts cost. But a Surface Pro costs between £800 and £1,500 new. A screen repair is still a fraction of that, and you keep all your files, programs, and Windows settings exactly as they were.
Other Tablet Brands
We also repair screens on Huawei tablets, Lenovo tablets, and Amazon Fire tablets.
Amazon Fire tablets are budget devices and the screen repair can sometimes cost a significant percentage of what the tablet is worth new. A Fire HD 8 costs around £100 new, so a screen repair needs to make financial sense. The Fire HD 10 and Fire Max 11 are more expensive and more worthwhile to repair. We’ll tell you honestly whether it makes sense to repair or replace.
Huawei and Lenovo tablets use quality aftermarket screens. Huawei MatePad models have good quality displays that are worth repairing, especially the MatePad Pro. Lenovo Tab P11 and P12 models are popular and parts are available. Less common models may take a day or two to source, but we’ll tell you the timeframe up front.
Whatever tablet you’ve got, bring it in and we’ll take a look. We’ll tell you what it costs and whether it’s worth doing.
How We Repair Tablet Screens
Walk in with your tablet and we’ll assess the damage. We check whether the glass is cracked, whether the display underneath is damaged, and whether the touch still responds. For iPads, we plug it into our diagnostic station and run the pre-repair test to get a full picture of the device’s health before we start.
We heat the edges of the tablet to soften the adhesive holding the screen to the frame. Every tablet brand uses different adhesive and different amounts of it. iPads use a moderate amount. Surface devices use a lot. Samsung tablets vary by model. We adjust our technique accordingly.
Once the adhesive is soft, we carefully separate the screen from the body using specialist tools. Thin, flexible separation picks work around the perimeter while suction cups hold the screen stable. This is a slow process. Rushing it risks cracking the new screen or damaging internal components like the cameras, antenna cables, or battery connector underneath.
We clean the frame thoroughly. All old adhesive removed, any glass fragments cleaned out, the seating surface checked for debris. The frame needs to be perfectly clean for the new screen to sit flat and seal properly. Any leftover fragment of glass can put pressure on the new screen and cause it to crack from the inside.
We fit the new screen assembly, connect the flex cables, and seal it with fresh adhesive. Before closing it up, we test everything. Touch response across the entire screen, every corner, every edge, the centre. We check for dead spots, phantom touches, and proper palm rejection. We test the cameras, buttons, and speakers to make sure nothing else was affected by the original drop.
For iPads, we run the full diagnostic suite again after the repair. You get before and after results so you can see exactly what changed and confirm everything is working. For other tablets, we do comprehensive manual testing of all functions.
Your data stays completely untouched. A screen replacement doesn’t affect your photos, apps, or anything stored on the tablet.

Call UsTablet Screen Repair vs Buying New
Tablets last for years. An iPad from 3-4 years ago still runs every app perfectly. A Samsung Galaxy Tab from 2-3 years ago is still a great media device. A cracked screen doesn’t mean the tablet is finished.
The numbers make the case on their own. A new iPad Air costs around £600. A new Samsung Tab S9 is similar. A new Surface Pro starts at over £1,000. Screen repairs on all of these cost a fraction of replacement. Even iPad Pro screen repairs, which are the most expensive tablet screen repairs we do, save you hundreds compared to buying new.
A screen repair extends the life of your tablet by years. Much cheaper than buying new, and you keep all your apps, settings, photos, and data without setting up a new device from scratch. No redownloading everything, no re-entering passwords, no reconfiguring settings.
iPads especially hold their value and last a long time with software support. Apple supports iPads for 5-6 years with updates. A screen repair on a 3-year-old iPad gives you another 2-3 years of use easily.
Kids and tablets go together, and kids drop things. If your wean keeps cracking the tablet screen, consider a proper case with raised edges and a screen protector after the repair. We stock screen protectors and can fit one before you leave. Prevention is cheaper than another repair.
If the tablet is very old and the repair cost is close to what a new budget tablet costs, we’ll tell you. No point spending money on a repair that doesn’t make sense. But for most tablets under 4-5 years old, repair is the smart choice.
Common Questions
How much does tablet screen repair cost?
Depends on the tablet model and screen type. iPad screens vary by model. Samsung service pack screens cost more than aftermarket. Surface repairs cost more due to complexity. We quote on the spot when you bring it in.
How long does a tablet screen repair take?
Most done same day. iPads and Samsung tabs usually a few hours. Surface tablets can take longer because of the adhesive removal process. We’ll give you a realistic timeframe.
Will I lose my data?
No. A screen replacement doesn’t touch your data. Photos, apps, settings, everything stays where it is.
Do you repair all iPad models?
Aye. iPad, iPad Air, iPad Mini, iPad Pro. All generations. We stock screens for the most common models.
Do you use Samsung service pack screens?
For Samsung tablets, aye. Same policy as Samsung phones. The aftermarket quality isn’t good enough. Service pack gives you the original screen quality.
Can you repair a Microsoft Surface screen?
Aye. It’s a more complex repair than iPad or Samsung because of how the Surface is built, but we have the experience and tools to do it properly.
Is it worth repairing an older tablet?
Usually, aye. iPads and Samsung tabs last for years. A screen repair extends the life significantly. If the repair costs more than the tablet is worth, we’ll tell you.
Should I get a screen protector after the repair?
Good idea, especially if it’s a tablet the kids use. We stock tempered glass and hydrogel screen protectors and can fit one before you leave.
